About
I completed my doctoral thesis in the School of Culture and Communication at Melbourne University in September 2009. My thesis addressed a selection of texts (fiction and non-fiction) published during the 'culture wars' in Australia during the mid-1990s.
I was a teenager during the mid-1990s, so that period has been important on a personal level. My thesis demonstrates that the 1993-97 period holds a much broader cultural and political significance.
I am currently collaborating with Rebecca Louise (Deakin University) on a study of media coverage surrounding sex crimes.
I have a number of forthcoming papers on topics that include true crime writing, Australian literature, sexual politics and Australian national identity.
I am Book Reviews Editor for the Journal of the Association for the Study of Australian Literature (JASAL). I am also on the editorial committee for the journal Colloquy: Text, Theory, Critique.
